Basilica di San Frediano

The Basilica of San Frediano, located in the northern part of Lucca, in an area between Via Fillungo and the town walls is the largest ecclesiastical complex of Lucca after that of the Duomo. The interior is divided into three naves covered with trusses and many chapels. On the north side, the church is attached against the buildings that housed up to 1780 the great convent of the Lateran Canons. The basilica has a large white limestone facade with a large mosaic at the top. In the apse of the church stands a mighty steeple crowned by a battlements dovetail. Of great importance are the works by Jacopo della Quercia and the tomb of Pasquino Cenami by Matthew Civitali.
